Oops, almost forgot about my turn to blog today. Food is figuring on my mind at this very instant since I’m about to have lunch, so I thought I’d talk about food. Always a favorite topic in our house.
Today I’m going to have a cheddar cheese, salad, and pickle sandwich and fruit before I head back to my writing cave. I like sandwiches for lunch and I go into a tizz if we happen to run out of bread. Since we’re not near shops we have to plan ahead in the bread department. We have emergency crackers but they’re just not the same. Sometimes I have toast with slices of fresh tomato and lots of ground black pepper. That’s a personal favorite. In the winter I like baked beans on toast or a bowl of soup - both great comfort foods. I luv soup.
What’s your favorite food to have for lunch? Do you tend to eat the same thing all the time? (I do!) What’s your favorite winter lunch? Summer lunch? What food can’t you do without at lunch time?
Okay - lots of things for you to comment about. This day next week I’m going to pick one name from all the commenters and send them a download of my latest Ellora’s Cave release, UNFORGETTABLE. I won’t necessary pick a comment from this post - I might pick one from Lauren’s upcoming posts or maybe TJ’s, so comment up a storm. The more you comment, the more chances you have ![]()

I eat what I can find in the house, which is not usually much, lol.
by Lisa W February 27th, 2007 at 8:43 amI run into a problem of eating the same things each day but of course I don’t want to go out in the cold to get something else.
by Shuck Ying February 27th, 2007 at 8:44 amI am an avid fast food lover but not good for my weight.
by Deborah February 27th, 2007 at 8:45 amThat is funny because I am a sandwich person for lunches as well. For some reason today I was craving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a cold glass of milk. Yesterday it was a roast beef and cheddar with dijon mustard. Totally yummy!
by Cherie J February 27th, 2007 at 1:37 pmBreakfast always has to be two slices of wheat toast with honey, but lunch, just depends on my mood. Sometimes its a cup of tomato soup and grilled cheese, sometimes a pb & j (always with milk too, cherie), sometimes leftovers and sometimes a slim fast shake.
by cathy February 27th, 2007 at 2:36 pmShelley, I think your sandwich choices are the most original I’ve seen in awhile. Did you grow up eating them, or discover your passion as an adult?
Cherie J - ah, another sandwich person

I’m gonna pass on the peanut butter and jelly sandwich - ugh! that is such an American thing.
Cathy - oh, toast and honey. Sometimes I have toast and honey for lunch. The cheddar cheese and pickle is a very “English” type sandwich. My favorite is Branston pickle - I’m not sure if you have that in the US. I think I grew to like cheese and pickle when we lived in the UK. Sometimes it was difficult to find something vegetarian to eat but there was always cheese and pickle.
The tomato on Vogels toast is something I think I got from my mother.
When Myla Jackson and family were over here in NZ visiting, we had a discussion about vegemite. Myla didn’t like vegemite very much. It’s a very NZ/Aust thing to eat. I quite often have vegemite on toast with a sprinkling of cheese or vegemite and slices of avocado.
For those who don’t know what vegemite is - it’s a yeast extract. It’s thick and black and you spread it thinly. It’s quite salty to the taste and full of Vitamin B complex so it’s good for you. It’s also great to add to gravy for both flavor or color - you know when gravy sometimes looks a bit pale and uninteresting?
Deborah - which fast foods are your favorites? My husband likes Big Macs or anything with chicken.
Lisa and shuck - come on - give us some details
by Shelley Munro February 28th, 2007 at 12:23 amOkay, another Big Mac lover raising hand.
