Do You Twitter?

Periodically new ideas with promo potential come along. Twitter is one of the latest things around. So what is Twitter, you ask? Basically it’s a tiny blog that you update throughout the day. When I say tiny I mean a small, since 140 characters is the maximum amount you can write in each post. The idea is to twitter several times a day to let your friends, family and co-workers know what you’re doing.

Here’s a video that explains everything:

I haven’t signed up yet but thought I would once I return home from my holiday. I’ve had a brainwave - a way to use Twitter for promo, so it will be interesting to see if it works. You can find Twitter here.

  1. I use twitter but not as promotion. I have to say I’m on overload with having a wave of authors show up at places and then proceed to pelt everyone in sight with promo, thereby ruining any actual feeling of community and turning it into yet another place I avoid.

When people spam me with any kind of promotion at all at myspace, twitter or facebook I will block them. I don’t want my inbox filled with promo spam.

BTW, I’m not saying you would do this! It’s just my chief annoyance at Facebook and it’s why I hate Myspace.

  2. I think I’m in the boat with Lauren on this one. I’d heard of Twitter, but my god, I’m so sick of getting people’s promo in MyComments on MySpace I could scream. It’s the spot where readers usually drop in to say hello and tell you to have a great weekend. But nooooo, some folks put a whole blurb of their upcoming book and expect me to post it as a comment? Grrrr.

Love ya, Shell ;D (cause neither you nor Lauren throw up blurbs on me all the time when you visit or leave me messages!) Tee hee!

  3. I have to agree that in-your-face promo is annoying. I haven’t had much of a problem at MySpace. I get the odd blurb but usually delete them. :)
