Maggie has finally had it with the men she’s been dating but a spilled plate of chili cheese fries drops Shane Chase right into her lap. The sheriff is hot stuff but was burned by a former fiance and is quite happy to play the field.

After Shane’s skittishness sends him out the door, Maggie realizes that Kyle Chase has had his eye on her from the start. Now that Shane has messed up, Kyle has no intention of letting anything stop him from wooing her right into his bed.

Despite Maggie’s happiness and growing love with Kyle, a dark shadow threatens everything. She’s got a stalker and he’s not happy at all. In the end, Maggie will need her wits, strength and the love of her man to get her out alive.

They chatted amicably but Kenoe didn’t miss the occasional frown whenever he let his guard down long enough for his anxiety, though slight, to creep down the bond. Bottom line—he had no desire to see the you’re-crazy-as-a-loon skepticism in her eyes when he told her what he was. God knew she wouldn’t believe him.

And he was less than enthusiastic about her reaction to the fact that he, Mr. Law Enforcement, as she called him, was investigating her closest relative for something that had nothing to do with honest vamps, and everything to do with Dr. Jekyll humans.

Not to mention the possibility of her flat-out rejecting him.

Ruthlessly squashing down all concern, he filled his mind with lighter thoughts. Actually just thinking on what a fabulous dinner she’d prepared for him, what a kind and considerate woman she was, a woman so sweet yet with an edge sharp enough to cut himself on. The perfect alpha. His perfect alpha.

And she’d prepared a dessert of strawberries covered with brown sugar syrup, laced with lemon zest. Oh yeah, she was a keeper. He only hoped she would feel the same when he told her…
When had she moved from her chair?

Shinju grinned and pushed his empty dishes off to the side. She held her hand out to him.

“What?”

“Up, handsome.”

Wondering what she was on about, he didn’t move but cocked his head to the side and waited instead.

“Naoru. Get. Up.” Her tone was stern, but not bitchy. He stood and allowed himself to be positioned to her liking. Mischief danced along their developing link and tickled the nerve endings at the base of his skull.

All of a piece, Shinju pushed her desires down the bond with such force they slammed into his brain and streaked clear down to his nuts. He reached to unbutton his shirt. A playful slap to his fingers caught him so off-guard, he froze for a second.

A snarled “mine” made it crystal clear that she was the only one getting to touch tonight. Or at least for the time being. Dropping his hands to his side, his spitfire female popped open each button slowly, deliberately, then peeled the garment off his shoulders. All the while she whispered what she wanted to do to him and let those wickedly talented fingers of hers run over the exposed skin, raising chill bumps along the way.

“God, Naoru, you’re so studly gorgeous.”

“Studly? Is that a typical Japanese word?”

“Remember I’m not a typical Japanese female. I’ve got a bit of sistah in me and I just have to let her out to play every now and then.” This was said as her fingernails scraped gently over the planes of his stomach and dipped into the hollows and ridges of his quaking abs. It made him tingle from the roots of his hair to his toes. Dayum!

“Amazing. I love your skin, so fair, smooth. Perfect. Like fresh cream. And that dusting of platinum silver hair on your chest. I missed that the last time I had you nearly naked. Is the hair around your cock the same beautiful shade?” she teased.

Holy shit! Kenoe balled his trembling hands into fists to keep from ripping her clothes off and taking her to the floor right then.

Instead, he said, “You’re being awfully naughty, but I’m all yours, lovely, so go ahead and find out.”

“I can’t wait to see what your fabulous cock looks like sliding into my pussy. I missed you so much. Dreamed about you each night until I was so hot and bothered. Kinda like I am now.”

“Shinju, you take too much longer to touch me and I’m going to have to do something about that. Sssss!” Her touch had moved down his chest, past his waist and down to the swelling ridge in his pants. Then she pushed him backwards until his ass hit the edge of the table.

Orca, Edits and Contests

I’m busy with edits at the moment. As luck would have it, they’ve all arrived at once, which means I’m going to be a little quiet for the next few days.

Today is the start of my spotlight week at Long and Short Reviews. Here’s the link. I’m giving away a few prizes, so come along and check it out.

Add some Sizzle to your Summer and enter the contest at The Hussies. There are lots of prizes up for grabs including a download from me. Here’s the link.

Author Island also has some wonderful contests. How would you like to win a book every week for a year? Or would you like to win a Kindle? These are just two of the contests over at Author Island. Here’s the link.

On Friday a young female orca washed up on the West Coast. She was loaded on a trailer and taken across Auckland, with a police escort, for release from Takapuna beach on the East Coast. Boat traffic seemed to confuse the orca, and DOC staff are asking the public to ring them in the case of a sighting. Here’s the full story here.

Did you have a fun weekend?

Power of Advertising

The following ad for Cadbury appeared on our television just over a week ago. The gorilla caught my attention quickly followed by the music. I watched the entire ad, spellbound, even though I had no idea what it was advertising. I think it was the combination of the lifelike gorilla playing the drums and the awesome Phil Collins soundtrack. I even mentioned the ad to hubby. Whenever it plays, I stop to watch. Here’s the ad from youtube.

Today I went to itunes’ New Zealand store to download a couple of songs. I’d decided to download the Phil Collins song as well. I couldn’t remember the name but figured I’d find it with a search. I didn’t have to search. Other New Zealanders had the same thought as me and the song is currently at #2 on the top ten songs downloaded from itunes. Such is the power of advertising.

This made me think, so here’s a note to the writers of the Grey’s Anatomy series. Don’t you think it’s time to feature something regarding erotic romance in your show? I have the perfect books for your characters to read. Good plot, great characters. Well written. You can use them for free in your show. Email me and we’ll talk…

CONTEST: Sally, Margaret and I were guests at Midnight Moon Cafe yesterday. We’re all giving away prizes, and it’s not too late to enter. The contest closes on Sat, 14 June, (scroll down to the second post) and the winners will be announced at Midnight.

MARGARET L. CARTER

SHELLEY MUNRO

About Gargoyles and To Kiss a Gargoyle by Sally Painter:

To Kiss a Gargoyle is pure fantasy. The idea came to me one day when I was thinking about gargoyles and how I’d like to write a story about them. That was in 2000 and I didn’t send the book out until nearly six years when I brushed it off to revamp for an erotic romance. I always enjoyed the gargoyle cartoons and the idea of being trapped inside a stone statue, specifically a gargoyle statue, intrigued me. Gargoyles are rather unknown creatures of the night and therefore very mysterious. They lend themselves to many stories and each can be very different. Some I’ve written were born as gargoyles, while others have been held spellbound. Also, the rules of their world can all be different. There’s a lot to work with when writing about a gargoyle.

So when I wrote To Kiss a Gargoyle, I thought what if a woman had an office overlooking a sexy half-man, half-lion gargoyle statue hanging off a ledge. For the past three years she’s talked to him as though he’s a real man and her fascination evolves into sexual fantasies about him coming to life and transforming into the man of her dreams. Marcy was the perfect heroine for such a scenario only her fantasies escalate until the statue she’s named Leonardo, becomes an obsession. She’s consumed by a compulsion to climb outside her high-rise onto the narrow ledge to kiss him. Just one kiss is all she craves. So, in that respect, the story is a kind of reverse-gender sleeping beauty - only with a gargoyle twist.

About Vampires and Tall, Dark and Deadly by Margaret L. Carter:

“Tall, Dark, and Deadly” belongs to my “Vanishing Breed” vampire universe, about a nonhuman, non-supernatural species of vampires living secretly among us. I’ve been an ardent vampire fan ever since reading DRACULA at the age of twelve, and even then, I wondered about the “monster’s” viewpoint on the story. Not only did the motif of sharing blood appeal to me as intimate and sensual, I was intrigued by the mental and emotional inner life of a creature who is almost human and yet, in some essential ways, alien. So I’ve always written fiction about sympathetic vampires. When my husband’s SF story “Vanishing Breed” appeared in my first published book, an anthology called CURSE OF THE UNDEAD (1970), I loved the idea of vampires as a natural species and was eventually inspired to convert my fictional vampires from the traditional undead into the SF type.

Claude in “Tall, Dark, and Deadly” is the half-brother of Roger Darvell, the vampire-human hybrid protagonist of my first vampire novel, DARK CHANGELING. Claude, however, was originally created independently in a short wish-fulfillment tale many years earlier, about a writer who meets an actor at a convention and finds out he’s a ravishing vampire. Claude began as a sort of Christopher Lee type of actor, and I still visualize his physical appearance as a cross between Lee in the early Hammer Dracula films and a young Lord Byron. The female writer in that story was a pure Mary Sue character. Eloise, as she eventually grew into the character who now appears in “Tall, Dark, and Deadly” as well as in CHILD OF TWILIGHT (sequel to DARK CHANGELING), remained an idealized version of myself—better looking, more confident, and more successful.

The complete chronology of the “Vanishing Breed” universe appears on my website.

About Werewolves, Ghosts and Curse of Brandon Lupinus by Shelley Munro:

I love ghost stories. I also love werewolf stories, and it came to me one day in a flash of brilliance. Why don’t I combine the two story elements? Once the original idea came to me, I embellished it in my head, as I do during the plotting stage. I thought about a man and a curse. I thought about the setting and decided an old estate in a British village would work nicely. I thought about my favorite historical time period, which is Georgian, by the way. I thought about an old ghost poem my mother used to read to her classes when she was a schoolteacher. Finally, I stirred all these ideas together and Curse of Brandon Lupinus was born.

Brandon Lupinus suffers from a curse and is forced to stay at his old estate, never seen, but sometimes his howls echo through the hills. The locals whisper of ghosts and wolves. None of this frightens Jess Whittlebury who falls in love with the estate and spends time lovingly restoring the old house. Jess fascinates Brandon and then he discovers she can sense him, feel his presence. If only he could break the curse…

New Release: Lovers at Last

Over at my blog today I’m talking about pitches to agents and editors at conferences. There are hints of what and what not to do during your pitch, so check it out. If you’re heading to a conference in the future it’s knowledge you need.

I have a new release this week. Lovers at Last is now out from Ellora’s Cave.

Lovers at Last

Pearl’s master plan to catch a rich husband—results so far…A for effort, F for success.

Justin Collet wants way more than friendship from Pearl. He craves love, laughter and hot, down-and-dirty passion. A life partner. All he needs to do is convince Pearl.

A broken relationship, a few drinks and a string of pearls. Comforting Pearl takes a turn into carnal territory. Heat blossoms between them, fiery and consuming. Sweet kisses inflame and erotic whispers tempt. It’s all or nothing for Justin as he seduces Pearl into agreeing they’re lovers at last.

To read an excerpt go here. Buy your copy here.

And finally I’m participating in two different scavenger hunts this month. There’s the Rainbow Reviews scavenger hunt. (results announced 30 June) and the Sultry Summer Scavenger Hunt, which closes 30 June 2008. Good luck with your scavenger hunts!

Reading Between The Lines…

Because I’ve gotten used to windows movie maker through doing video blogging, I thought I’d try to make a book video for a few of my upcoming books. The problem is, like video blogging, I look up and an hour has passed without my knowing it. It’s fun to think about how to present your book through visual media instead of through words. It’s a whole new way to think about your work and as long as you use the stock photo sites and the stock music sites (hey, I know what it’s like to be pirated!), you can make something fun for around the same price as you’d spend on some cover ads at a website (aside from what a huge time suck it is, but that’s just me loving to learn something new - blame Anya Bast, she started me on this road!)

To tell the truth, I’m not overly convinced book videos make a difference in book buying patterns. Shrug. Hell, lots of things I do I’m not sure if they make a difference. And having them done professionally is far more expense than I’m personally willing to go to (although certainly after having done one now, I know the time and energy it takes!).

However, I’m never opposed to learning how to do things for myself. It appeals to the control freak living inside me, making lists and using color coded 3×5 cards and stuff. I don’t think it can *hurt* to try book videos, most certainly. And I like doing the multi media stuff even if I’m not perfect at it. It’s fun even if it’s time porn in a major way.

I’ve got several books coming out in print the remainder of this year - Making Chase, Reading Between the Lines and Undercover (and Taking Care of Business in the UK) so why not give it a whirl? So without further ado - here’s my very first book video for my summer trade paper release, Reading Between the Lines. Go easy on me, it’s my first time…
